Migrating an activated license from the License Center or License Manager

If the license is already activated on a NAS device, the license should be deactivated online or offline before applying the license to a new NAS device.

  • If you can still access your old device.
  • If you cannot access your old device, or it is not functioning.
    • Go to QNAP Customer Service and submit a support ticket for license deactivation. Our customer support team may ask you to provide further information before the process.
    • Once the license is deactivated, activate the license on the new NAS device by following the instructions on License Activation

Use Policy

  • The default license that is embedded in the NAS and QVP servers cannot be migrated.
  • A license key can only be activated on one QNAP device at a time.
  • Only licenses purchased from QNAP or QNAP distributers are valid for migration.
  • QVR Pro Gold licenses cannot be applied to QVP devices. Other restrictions follow the original limitation of each license.
  • Surveillance Station or VioStor devices are invalid for migration.
  • License keys registered under your QNAP ID cannot be re-sold, shared, or transferred to another QNAP ID. Keep your account secure with 2FA and other recommended methods to prevent it is being accessed by others.
  • License keys, and the information of your QNAP devices that may include the serial numbers, model names, will be sent to QNAP for validation. We do not collect other personal data during the validation process.
