Industrias Ferri

Industrias Ferri, a Spanish naval engineering company, improves its business continuity, resilience, and ENS/NIS2 regulatory compliance through a HA and backup infrastructure (on-premise and cloud) based on QNAP.

Thanks to QNAP, we achieved a stable, fast, and highly available infrastructure that improved our engineers' daily work and strengthened our business continuity strategy.

- IT Manager Industrias Ferri

Background

Industrias Ferri specialized in naval engineering develops design and manufacturing projects for structures and mechanical systems for the maritime and industrial sectors. Its activities include the design of cranes and industrial components for naval projects with high technical demands.

With more than 60 engineers working daily on design platforms, ERP, and document management systems, Industrias Ferri needed a technological infrastructure capable of ensuring high performance, continuous availability, and data protection. In addition, the organization sought to adapt its technological environment to new cybersecurity and business continuity requirements aligned with regulations and frameworks such as ENS and NIS2.

The customer uses these solutions

  • High Availability storage

Create a HA cluster with QNAP NAS for automatic failover, ensuring real-time data protection and continuous operation.

  • ZFS-based storage with data integrity

Optimize enterprise workloads with self-healing storage, data deduplication, huge capacity, real-time synchronization, and faster compression/decompression.

Challenges

The company faced significant challenges related to the performance, availability, and resilience of its virtualization infrastructure. The virtual machines supporting critical services such as ERP, SQL databases, authentication systems, file servers, and engineering platforms required a high-performance, highly available storage solution.

Any service interruption could directly affect the engineers' daily work and cause delays in projects of great importance to the company. Additionally, the company needed to improve its disaster recovery capabilities and have a centralized and reliable backup system.

Another main objective was to increase resilience against hardware failures and ensure an infrastructure ready for future expansions, while keeping costs contained compared to traditional Storage enterprise solutions.

Additionally, the organization needed to strengthen its business continuity and cybersecurity strategy to advance compliance with regulatory requirements and frameworks such as ENS and NIS2, which are especially relevant in industrial environments and projects linked to the naval sector and critical engineering.

Solution

Thanks to the experience and collaboration of Ofimática Touza, the company successfully completed the implementation of an enterprise Storage infrastructure based on a QNAP NAS cluster, optimizing the management, protection, and accessibility of corporate information.

The company deployed an infrastructure based on a high-availability QNAP NAS cluster using two QNAP TS-h1090FU systems configured to provide shared Storage via iSCSI LUN to an H3C CAS virtualization server responsible for hosting five critical business virtual machines.

The solution enabled the centralization of Storage for production environments, providing fast and stable access to all services used by technical and administrative departments. At the same time, a second QNAP TS-873AeU-RP NAS was implemented exclusively for backup and disaster recovery tasks, complemented by QNAP cloud Storage to strengthen the data protection strategy.

The combination of high availability, snapshots, shared Storage, and centralized backup systems made it possible to create a resilient platform ready to support the company's future growth.

Result

After the implementation of the QNAP solution, the company experienced an immediate improvement in the performance and stability of its virtualized systems. The more than 60 engineers who work daily on design and management applications began to enjoy much smoother and faster access to corporate resources.

The HA architecture significantly reduced the risk of service interruptions and improved business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities. Likewise, the centralization of backups simplified administration tasks and increased the security of corporate information.

The company also highlighted the ease of expanding the infrastructure, the excellent integration with virtualization environments, and the improvement of its cybersecurity posture, allowing it to advance in meeting requirements associated with ENS and NIS2.

In pool, the QNAP solution became a strategic element to guarantee the availability, scalability, and resilience of the company's technological infrastructure.
