Why does enabling the domain controller service on my QNAP NAS fail when using a one-word domain name (e.g. qnap)?

The “Domain” field found at “QTS” > “Control Panel” > “Privilege” > “Domain Controller” > “Enable Domain Controller” does not support one word (single-label) domain names. The domain name must be multi-label, which means it must contain two or more parts each separated by a period (examples: qnap.local, qnap.com).
