Why is my newly created VJBOD disk smaller than originally specified?

Last modified date: 2024-08-08

Applicable Products

  • QuTS hero
  • Storage & Snapshots

Root Cause

If your newly created VJBOD disk's capacity is smaller than you originally specified in the creation wizard, it may be due to different firmware versions running on the host and remote NAS devices. Specifically, this can happen if your host NAS is running QuTS hero h5.1.4 or earlier, but your remote NAS is running QuTS hero h5.1.5 or later. This is because in QuTS hero h5.1.5 and later, a small portion of space is reserved for the parent storage pool to enhance capacity utilization.

Solution

To address this problem, update both the host and remote NAS devices to the latest firmware version before creating the VJBOD disk. This ensures that the VJBOD disk can be created with a capacity equal to the specified value.

To maintain compatibility, remember to always update both devices to the same firmware version.
