How do I download the latest virus definitions for an update server in McAfee Antivirus?

Last modified date: 2023-11-29

Applicable Products

  • McAfee Antivirus

Procedure

After configuring the update server, it is important that you manually update the virus definitions regularly to avoid security issues.

  1. Go to https://update.nai.com/products/commonupdater/.
  2. Locate the following files:
    • avvdat-xxxxx.zip
    • gdeltaavv.ini
  3. Download the files to the selected FTP or WebDAV directory.
Note
  • Locate and download the most recent AVVDAT and GDELTAAVV files.
  • Before installing the latest files, remove any previously installed files from your server. This will free up disk space and guarantee that your antivirus software employs the most recent virus definitions.
  • Once you have located and removed older AVVDAT and GDELTAAVV files, proceed with the installation of the latest files.

McAfee Antivirus verifies the downloaded files from the update server and updates the virus definition files. The frequency for these updates is determined by the time interval you have set in the Settings page in the application.
