New Features
High Availability Manager (latest version required)
- High Availability Manager is a new application that can help you maximize service uptime by setting up one NAS device as a backupdevice of another. Whenever failure occurs on one device, the other device can automatically take over and continue providing services. To implement high availability, two NAS devices of the same model arerequired.
- You can now use a virtual switch for the cluster interface, providing greater deployment flexibility in virtualized networking environments. To configure the cluster interface, go to "High Availability Manager > Settings > HA Network". Note: You cannot use Network & Virtual Switch to configure a virtual switch as a cluster interface.
- You can now choose to enable or disable automatic failback in "High Availability Manager > Settings > Failover Policy". Automatic failback allows the system to automatically transfer the active role back to the original active node when it recovers after a failover, system restart, or firmware update.
Snapshot Manager
- Snapshots now have a "protection policy" attribute that combines thepreviousfeature of permanent snapshots and the property of immutability. When taking or editing a snapshot, or configuring a local snapshot schedule, you can now select a protection policy that prohibits automatic deletion by the system and/or manual deletion by a user. You can also specify theprohibitionexpirationtime.
KMIP
- Added support for enabling KMIP (Key Management Interoperability Protocol) service. By configuring a KMIP client and connecting it to a remote key server of your choice, you can securely store and access your encryption keys for various NAS features, such as encrypted shared folders and encrypted LUNs.
Storage Manager
- Storage Manager now supports the creation of tiered storage pools to enhance read/write performance and improve storage efficiency. Each tiered pool can include two to three tiers, with faster tiers for storingfrequentlyaccessed data and slower tiers for lessfrequentlyaccessed data.
ACL
- Introduced ACL 2.0,a new versionthatoptimizespermission storage and inheritance processes to significantly enhance permission configuration and query performance in environments that require large-scale file and shared folder configuration.
Control Panel
- Administrators can now view and manage QNAP IDs that are linked to user accounts.
- Administrators can now help users disablepasswordlesslogin in case they need to log in with other methods.
- Added support for configuring SSH encryption settings for networkfile-sharingconnections. Users can select from predefined encryption modes or use a custom mode to specify preferred encryption algorithms.
Desktop & Login
- This update enhances NAS login security and user experience by adding support for the FIDO2 authentication standard. You can now log in using physical security keys such as YubiKey, or platform authenticators such as Windows Hello and Touch ID. Known as Passkey, this login method can be enabled in Desktop > Login & Security > 2-step Verification orPasswordlessLogin.ToenablePasskeylogin, ensure that the system is accessed via HTTPS with a domain name and that FIDO2 Server has been installed.
- You can now log in to the NAS with your QNAP ID. This allows you to log in without having to remember local account credentials for a more streamlined user experience. Administrators can enable this feature in Control Panel > Security > Login and Password.
iSCSI &FibreChannel
- Added support forN_PortID Virtualization (NPIV), aFibreChannel (FC) technology that allows multipleWorld WideNames (WWNs) to share a single physical port. This allows multiple virtual machines or applications to connect to a storage area network (SAN) independently through the same physical host port, improving scalability, resourceutilization, and simplifying SAN management. NPIV also allows users to use FCservicein high-availability (HA) environments.
- FibreChannel (FC) service is now available, allowing computers, servers, other NAS devices, and virtual machines to access NAS storage in the form of LUNs over an FC network. If you want to use FC service in an HA environment, you must enable NPIV service in "iSCSI &FibreChannel > Protocol Settings >FibreChannel Service".
System
- Added support for Secure Boot to strengthen system protection. This feature ensures that your NAS only runs trusted and signed firmware during the boot process, preventing loading unauthorized or maliciouscode.Currentlythis feature is supported on TVS-AIh1688ATX. We will add support for future models andindicatethis support on their product pages.
- You can now set a preferred firmware update time in a reminder message on the desktop for greater flexibility and control.
Enhancement
ACL
- After upgrading to ACL 2.0, the system now supports themaximumACL entry limit from 124 to 1020, thus providing greater flexibility for permission management.
App Center
- App Center now features a fully redesigned interface for a more modern and intuitive user experience.
Desktop & Login
- The Quick Start page has been redesigned andrenamed toFeature Tour. This new tour integrates key feature highlights and the latest updates to help you quickly learn about essential NAS features. It appears automatically upon your first login and can be revisited anytime in Desktop > More > Help.
- You can now enable or disable password login according to your needs. Note that disabling password login can enhance account security, but you will only be able to access applications that supportpasswordlesslogin, such as web login,QfilePro (Android/iOS),Qmanager(Android/iOS), andQsyncClient (Windows/Mac). To configure this setting, go to Desktop > Login & Security >PasswordlessLogin > Available Verification Methods.
High Availability Manager (latest versionrequired)
- Manual and scheduledSnapSyncjobs are now supported in HA environments.
- SED storage pools are now supported in HA environments. If you create an HA cluster with existing SED pools, you must provide the encryption password for each pool.
- Encrypted shared folders and LUNs are now supported in HA environments. If you create an HA cluster with existing encrypted storage spaces, you must provide the encryption password for each space.
iSCSI &FibreChannel
- You can now use encrypted LUNs in HA environments.
Network & Virtual Switch
- Migrated the Network & Virtual Switch web help to Help Center, where users can access more detailed and comprehensive documentation.
- Network & Virtual Switch now supports customizable MAC addresses, allowing users to assign addresses that align with their network requirements.
Snapshot Manager
- Users can now view detailed information about each snapshot by clicking "Snapshot Details" in the snapshot's action menu (available in both list and timeline views).
- SnapSyncperformance test results can now bedeleted, allowing users to remove records that are no longer needed.
- Added an Overview page, providing a summary of the statuses of all snapshots, Snapshot Replica jobs, andSnapSyncjobs.
Storage Manager
- You can now use encrypted shared folders and SED storage pools in HA environments.
- Improved the storage pool recovery workflow.
- Optimized system memory usage to enhance application performance.
- Added support for attaching and detaching storage pools in HA environments.
System
- In an HA environment, you can now check the hardware resource allocation of both devices through Control Panel and promptly respond to potential hardware resource issues.
- Optimizedthe firmware update interface, making it easier tomonitorthe firmware update progress.
Other Changes
Snapshot Manager
- With the upgrade to ACL 2.0 inQuTShero h6.0.0, the following Snapshot Manager features are affected: (1) Snapshots created with ACL 2.0 cannot be imported to devices using an earlier ACL version; (2) Snapshot Replica jobs cannot be created or run if the source uses ACL 2.0 and the destination uses an earlier ACL version; (3)SnapSyncjobs can only be created or run when the source and destination use the same ACL version.
