What is hard drive compatibility?
To meet different usage needs, hard drive manufacturers often produce various models and specifications under the same product lineup. When product specifications differ in terms of IC, PCB and layout, compatibility issues may arise. If the hard drives in your QNAP NAS are not fully compatible, issues such as poor performance, system instability, or bad sectors may occur.
QNAP tests and verifies hard drive compatibility with NAS and storage expansion devices (JBODs), ensuring that the software and hardware is fully integrated for smooth operation. We ensure that our users receive the utmost tested solutions.

QNAP’s commitment to verifying compatibility
To test and verify hard drive compatibility, the QNAP DQV team puts hard drives and NAS products through dozens of quality tests, including reliability testing which can take several weeks to finish.
Why are some hard drives removed from the Compatibility List?
Hard drive manufacturers occasionally update their device firmware or make slight hardware adjustments while in production. These changes may affect device compatibility and stability, potentially leading to incompatibility. If our tests reveal that a device is no longer compatible, and we remove it from our Compatibility List, we aim to provide as much information as possible regarding its removal.
