TL-R6020Sep-RP
4U 60-Bay SAS/SATA storage expansion solution supporting 1PB effective capacity in a single chassis

tl-r6020sep-rp

The TL-R6020Sep-RP SAS/SATA storage expansion enclosure in a 60-bay, 4U high-density chassis is the ideal petabyte-level storage expansion solution for QNAP NAS. It provides four high-speed Mini-SAS HD (SFF-8644) ports, supporting SAS 12Gbps transmission interfaces and Broadcom® SAS DataBolt™ bandwidth optimization technology. Its Mini-SAS dual-path redundancy design ensures system operation even if one expansion unit cable fails. Supporting daisy-chaining of up to four units, it's ideal for cold storage applications such as surveillance video archiving, big data storage, and multimedia image storage.

1. The NAS must use QuTS hero version h5.2.0 (or later). Models without a built-in SAS port require a QXP PCIe SAS interface card. Check compatible PCIe SAS interface cards
2. A RAIL-H01 rail kit is included with the shipment. This supports installation in any 19-inch rack cabinet that complies with the ANSI/EIA-RS-310-D standard.

  • PB-level capacity per chassis

Up to 60 SAS/SATA hard drives can be installed in a compact 4U chassis, achieving an effective capacity of over 1PB.

Note: Requires 24TB (or higher) hard drives and depends on RAID configuration.

  • Expand to 4 units with 240 hard drives

Up to 4 units can be expanded, bringing the total number of hard drives to 240, allowing for flexible expansion based on business growth to accommodate massive amounts of data or backup files.

  • Flexible port configuration

By enabling multipath or link aggregation, data transfer between the NAS and SAS storage devices becomes faster and more stable.

  • QuTS hero system support

Uses the ZFS file system, providing multi-layered data protection mechanisms and a variety of advanced storage services including real-time compression and deduplication, fully unleashing the potential of PB-level capacity.

  • DataBolt bandwidth optimization

Supports Broadcom® SAS DataBolt™ bandwidth optimization, aggregating two 6Gb/s transmissions into a single 12Gb/s data stream, achieving 12Gb/s SAS high-speed transmission performance.

  • Designed for easy maintenance and management

The cooling fans and power supply are hot-swappable and optimized for 1000mm-deep rack-mount server cabinets. They ship with pre-installed rails and an optional cable management kit.

4U space for sixty hard drives

The TL-R6020Sep-RP provides sixty 3.5-inch SAS/SATA HDD slots, delivering petabyte-level massive storage in a single chassis. QNAP NAS allows flexible management of connected TL-R6020Sep-RP storage space through the Storage & Snapshot Manager app. Paired with QNAP-certified hard drives, the TL-R6020Sep-RP provides a highly stable and reliable storage solution. Adding a single chassis can expand the effective capacity to PB level

The TL-R6020Sep-RP provides a single chassis effective capacity of 1 PB, which can meet the capacity requirements of long-term high-definition digital surveillance.

1. Estimated bit rate is 2Mbps and 4Mbps for 1080P H.264 and 4K H.265 respectively.
2. Raw capacity calculated using sixty 24TB HDDs in RAID 60 with 10% over-provisioning.

Flexible cascading of up to 4 JBODs for expansion up to 4PB of raw capacity

The TL-R6020Sep-RP features four 12Gb/s SAS 3.0 SFF-8644 SAS wide ports, allowing connection to a NAS host with a SAS expansion card. Up to four TL-R6020Sep-RP units can be daisy-chained together, expanding your NAS by 240 hard drives for up to 4PB storage space. Multipath redundancy technology supported by the NAS host ensures smooth data transfer and access, maintaining uninterrupted system service.

We recommend using the QXP-1630S-3816 PCIe 4.0 quad-port external SAS 12Gb/s storage expansion card.

Diverse JBOD connection methods improve overall performance

The TL-R6020Sep-RP is not limited to daisy chaining. By installing more SAS storage expansion cards in the NAS, you can reduce the number of single-cluster TL-R6020Sep-RP drives and improve overall performance. TL-R6020Sep-RP can also expand an existing QNAP TL SAS JBOD by adding two more, increasing the existing storage capacity to petabyte-level.

Streamline rack space, reduce weight and power consumption

With 4U of space and sixty hard drives, the TL-R6020Sep-RP significantly reduces rack space usage, power consumption, and weight. Pre-configured with the RAIL-H01 rail kit and an optional cable management kit, the freed-up space can easily organize complex cabling, thereby reducing long-term maintenance costs.

Monitor each hard drive from the front panel

The TL-R6020Sep-RP features sixty hard drive status indicators (blue and red) on the front panel, eliminating the need to pull the system from the rack and open the top cover to access the drive trays. A pull-out label also serves as a rack label, making it easy to identify and manage individual TL-R6020Sep-RP.

Mechanical design that facilitates maintenance and management

The TL-R6020Sep-RP features easy-to-replace drive trays and system cooling fans. Six 120mm x 120mm fans ensure adequate airflow for system cooling. A chassis depth of only 750mm facilitates deployment in racks up to 1M in depth, reducing installation difficulty.

QuTS hero's ZFS file system is a natural fit for petabyte-scale storage

Built using the ZFS file system, QuTS hero provides a highly reliable storage solution. By connecting TL-R6020Sep-RP JBODs, capacity can be expanded to petabytes, meeting requirements for explosive growth of data storage while safeguarding critical business data.

ZFS offers self-healing capabilities to prevent silent data corruption, performing checksum verification on all data blocks and automatically repairing erroneous blocks. If static data corruption occurs due to hardware failure (such as a broken cable), driver errors, or metadata errors, the next time the block is read, a checksum discrepancy is detected and data is automatically repaired. This maintenance ensures data integrity and accuracy and is essential for petabyte-level data.
