Qsirch

This applies to the following application and browser extension versions (and later): Qsirch 5.0.1 on the NAS, Qsirch 1.5.3 for Android, Qsirch 1.5.0 for iOS, Qsirch Helper 1.5.1 for Google Chrome, and Qsirch Helper 1.5.2 for Firefox.

Qsirch is a full-text search engine that helps you find files based on file name, content, and metadata. Qsirch has three applications for three different platforms, all of which are designed to help you find files on your QNAP NAS. Depending on your needs, Qsirch allows you to perform various file operations on your search results, such as sharing files to other users and locating them directly on the NAS.

Qsirch Helper allows you to search for files on your NAS using Google Chrome or Firefox. The extension also simultaneously searches for relevant files on your NAS when searching for files on the Internet.

QNAP provides different types of licenses for Qsirch. For more information on a paid license for Qsirch on the NAS, go to https://software.qnap.com/qsirch.html.

System Requirements

Qsirch on the NAS

Qsirch 5.0.1 or later must meet the following requirements.

  • The NAS architecture must be x86 (64 bit), ARM 64-bit, or an ARM x41 (32-bit).

    For details on NAS architecture, check the hardware specifications sheet in your NAS User Guide.

  • The NAS model must have at least 2 GB RAM of pre-installed memory.

    For details on pre-installed memory, check the hardware specifications sheet in your NAS User Guide.

  • The NAS must be running one of the following operating system versions or later: QTS 4.4.3, QuTScloud c4.5.2, or QuTS hero h4.5.0.

    For details on updating your NAS firmware, go to the System Settings section of the appropriate operating system User Guide.

Earlier versions of Qsirch are compatible with earlier versions of QTS, QuTScloud, and QuTS hero.

Qsirch Mobile

  • Qsirch is compatible with Android 8 or iOS 11 or later.

  • Qsirch for Android and iOS are available in the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.

Getting Started

You must install Qsirch on the NAS to allow Qsirch applications and browser extensions to search for files on your NAS.

  1. Install Qsirch.

    For details, see Installing Qsirch on the NAS.

  2. Install Qsirch mobile and add a NAS.
    Note:
    • You can directly install Qsirch from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store and then follow the on-screen instructions.

    • For more information on how to add a NAS, go to Adding a NAS on Qsirch Mobile.

  3. Install Qsirch Helper and add a NAS.
    Note:
    • You can install Qsirch Helper from the Google Chrome or Firefox extension page and then follow the on-screen instructions.

    • For more information on how to add a NAS, go to Adding a NAS on Qsirch Helper.

Installing Qsirch on the NAS

Important:

Before installing Qsirch, ensure that a default volume has been configured on the NAS. For details, see the volumes section of the QTS User Guide.

  1. Log on to QTS as administrator.
  2. Go to App Center, and then click .

    A search box appears.

  3. Type Qsirch, and then press ENTER.

    The Qsirch application appears in the search results.

  4. Click Install.

    The installation window appears.

  5. Select the volume you want to install Qsirch on.
  6. Click OK.

    QTS installs Qsirch.

Installing Qsirch PC Edition

This task explains how to install Qsirch PC Edition from the QNAP Utilities webpage. You can also install the Qsirch PC Edition from the QNAP Download Center or the Qsirch PC Edition official landing page.

  1. In your web browser, go to https://www.qnap.com/go/utilities/.
  2. Locate Qsirch PC Edition, and click the download button for your operating system.

    Your operating system downloads the installer.

  3. Open the installer, and follow the instructions.

    The operating system installs the Qsirch PC Edition on the client device.

Adding a NAS on Qsirch Mobile and Qsirch Helper

You must add a NAS to allow Qsirch and Qsirch Helper to search for files on that NAS.

Adding a NAS on Qsirch Mobile

  1. Open Qsirch on your mobile device.
  2. Select your region.
    Tip:

    To change your region, go to your NAS Control Panel.

  3. Swipe back.
  4. Select one of the following options.

    2. Tap Add NAS manually.

    3. Specify the connection information.

    4. Tap Save.

    Sign in QNAP ID

    Add a NAS using a QNAPID.

    1. Tap Sign in QNAP ID.

      The QNAP ID screen appears.

    2. Enter your account information.

    3. Tap Sign in.

      A confirmation message appears.

    4. Tap OK.

    5. Tap the NAS you want to add.

    6. Specify its connection information.

    7. Tap Login.

    Tip:

    After adding a NAS, Qsirch mobile automatically connects you to that NAS. If you want to add a new NAS, tap Cancel login, and tap Add NAS and select an option from step 4.

    Qsirch connects the NAS.

Adding a NAS on Qsirch Helper

To download Qsirch Helper, go to the extension page on Google Chrome or Firefox.

  1. Open Qsirch Helper.
  2. Select your region.
  3. Click Save.

    A confirmation message appears.

  4. Click Yes.
  5. Click .

    Two options appear.

  6. Select one of the following options.

    2. Specify the connection information.

    3. Click Save.

    Access myQNAPcloud devices

    Add a NAS using a QNAPID.

    1. Select Access myQNAPcloud devices.

      The QNAP Account window opens.

    2. Enter your account information.

    3. Click Sign in.

      Qsirch Helper searches for all NAS devices connected to your QNAP ID account.

    4. Identify a NAS to add and click Add.

    5. Specify its connection information.

    6. Click Save.

    Note:

    You can only add one QNAP ID.

    Tip:

    If you want to add an additional NAS, click , select Connection list, and then click .

    Qsirch Helper connects the NAS and adds it to the connection list.

Managing Search Sources

Defining additional search sources allows you to expand where Qsirch can look for files. You can include other devices by installing Qsirch on your NAS and adding the device as a search source.

Additionally, you can include your PC within the search scope by installing Qsirch PC Edition. By default all computers that install and configure Qsirch PC Edition are included as part of the search scope.

Adding a Search Source

You must install Qsirch on the NAS that you want to add as a search source.

  1. Open Qsirch PC Edition.
  2. Click .

    The Manage Search Sources sidebar appears.

  3. Click .

    The Add a NAS manually sidebar screen appears.

  4. Enter a host IP or a myQNAPcloud name.
  5. Optional: Specify a nickname.
  6. Enter the username.
  7. Enter a password.
  8. Select Secure login (SSL).
  9. Click Add.

    A confirmation message appears.

  10. Click Yes.

    Qsirch PC Edition enables the NAS as a search source.

Modifying an Existing Search Source

  1. Open Qsirch PC Edition.
  2. Click .

    The Manage Search Sources sidebar appears.

  3. Click .

    Three options appear.

  4. Select one of the following options.

    Changes the NAS nickname, username, password, port, and secure login (SSL).

    1. Select Edit.

    2. Modify the NAS settings.

    3. Click Save.

    Delete

    Deletes the NAS. The NAS disappears from the search source list.

    1. Select Delete.

      A confirmation message appears.

    2. Click Yes.

    Logout

    Logs out of the NAS.

    1. Select Logout.

      A confirmation message appears.

    2. Select Yes.

Searching for Files

Qsirch allows you to search for files on your NAS.

Searching for Files on the NAS Using Qsirch

This task only applies to Qsirch on the NAS.

To access Qsirch on the NAS, you must log in first.

  1. Open Qsirch.
  2. Search for your files using one of the following methods.

    2. Specify keywords or phrases that you want to include or exclude from the search results.

    3. Specify the category, date modified, or size of the files you want to search for.

    4. Click Search.

    Tip:
    • On Qsirch for the NAS, you can also click Explore Your NAS from the home screen or click from the search results screen to search your NAS files by category.

    • To allow Qsirch to search for files in the network recycle bin, go to Settings > General > Search scope and select Search recyle folders. This option is only available for Qsirch on the NAS.

    Qsirch searches for relevant files.

Searching for Files Using an Interactive Map

This task only applies to Qsirch on the NAS.

Qsirch only finds photos that have a GPS location.

  1. Open Qsirch.
  2. Click Map Search.
    Tip:

    To access Map Search from the search results screen, click .

    The Map Search window opens.

  3. Click on a location.

    Qsirch finds photos taken from that location.

Searching for Files Using People Image Search

This task only applies to Qsirch on the NAS.

You can use People Image Search to find all photos of a person.

  1. Log in to the NAS.
  2. Open Qsirch.
  3. Click People Image Search.
    Tip:

    To access People Image Search from the search results screen, click .

    The People Image Search window opens.

  4. Select one of the following options.

    Searches for a person using a photo you upload from your PC.

    1. Click Browse.

    2. Select a photo.

    NAS Folder

    Searches for a person using a photo from your NAS.

    1. Click NAS Folder

    2. Select a folder.

      Note:
      • To expand a folder tree, click .

      • If there are any images in the folder, they will appear on the right-hand side.

    3. After finding the image you want, click the photo.

    People Image Search identifies the person.

Searching for Files Using Qsirch Mobile

  1. Open Qsirch mobile.
  2. Search for your files using one of the following methods.

    Searches for files in a specific folder.

    2. Under Location, tap Select a folder.

    Searches for files based on a specific category.

    1. Tap .

      A menu list appears.

    2. Under Category, select one of the following options:

      • Images

      • Videos

      • Music

      • Documents

      • PDF

      • Email

      • Microsoft Office Documents

      • Word

      • Excel

      • Powerpoint

    Tip:
    • To filter your search results, tap and select a filter.

    • To sort your search results, change the display of your search results, or select multiple files, tap and select Sort, View mode, or Multi-select.

Searching for Offline Files Using Qsirch Mobile

This task only applies to Qsirch mobile.

By adding files to the Download folder, you can search for them offline. Changing the download folder does not remove previous files from the Offline search.

  1. Open Qsirch.
  2. Optional: Change your Download folder.
    1. Tap .

      The Qsirch side menu appears.

    2. Tap Settings.

      The Settings screen appears.

    3. Under Download folder, tap Path.

      The Select folder window opens.

    4. Select a local folder.
    5. Tap OK.

      Qsirch changes the Download folder path.

  3. Add a file to the specified folder in Download folder.
  4. From the Qsirch side menu, click Offline search.

    The Offline search screen appears.

  5. Select one of the following options.

    Searches for all files included in the Offline search.

    1. Tap .

      Your phone keyboard appears.

    2. Specify a keyword.

    3. Tap the default search icon on your phone.

    Selects multiple files.

    1. Tap .

    2. Select at least one file.

    Changes your file display or sorts your files.

      A menu list appears.

    2. Select one of the following options.
      • View mode

        Your file display changes.

      • Sorting

        The Sorting window opens, which allows you to select how you want to sort your offline files and in what order.

Searching for Files on the NAS Using Qsirch Helper

Simultaneous search in Qsirch Helper allows you to search for relevant files on your NAS while searching for files on the Internet. This feature is enabled by default.

  1. Open Qsirch Helper.
  2. Specify a keyword.
  3. Click .

    A new tab opens.

    Tip:
    • You can use filters to narrow your search results. For more information, go to Filtering Your Search Results.

    • Qsirch Helper can open Qsirch in a browser. Therefore, you can directly change the language for Qsirch on the NAS. Click and then select Language.

    • To disable Simultaneous search, click and click Settings, and then Dismiss forever, and then Save.

Performing File Operations on Search Results

Depending on the platform, you can open, download, share, or locate your search results using built-in or third-party applications. Qsirch on the NAS allows you to perform file operations on a file with or without previewing a file. To preview documents using Qsirch on the NAS, you must enable Cloud Viewer. For details, see Previewing Files Using Cloud Services.

Previewing Files Using Cloud Services

This task only applies to Qsirch on the NAS.

Enabling Cloud Viewer allows you to preview documents on Qsirch. Depending on your preferences or needs, you can choose to preview files using the Google Docs Viewer or the Microsoft Office Viewer.

  1. Log on to the NAS.
  2. Open Qsirch.
  3. Click .

    A menu list appears.

  4. Click Settings.

    The Settings window opens.

  5. Click Cloud Viewer.
  6. Select Enable Cloud Viewer.
  7. Select your preferred method.

    Note:

    This option only views word documents and other similar file formats.

    You can only preview files less than 10 MB.

Performing File Operations on Qsirch With File Preview

This task applies to Qsirch on the NAS.

  1. After searching for files, click the file you want to preview.

    The View file screen appears.

  2. Select one of the following options.

After searching for files, select one of the following options.

        The Create link only window opens, which allows you to copy the direct link.

    Direct share

    Directly shares the file using your phone's default or third-party applications.

    1. Tap .

      A set of options appear.

    2. Tap Direct Share.

      A list of sharing options opens.

    3. Tap a sharing option.

Performing File Operations on Qsirch PC Edition

  1. After searching for files, click the file you want to preview.
  2. Select one of the following options.

    Option

    Opens the file using the default Windows application.

    Click .

    Locates the file with File Explorer.

    Click .

    Locates the file with File Explorer.

    Note:

    This option does not require you to preview the file.

    1. Click

    2. Select at least one file.

    3. Click .

Filtering Your Search Results

The tasks described in this section applies to Qsirch on the NAS. There are different ways to narrow your search results. Depending on your needs, you can choose to include or exclude files and add or remove filters. Users on a Lite license can only apply three filters for each category. To add more filters, you must purchase Qsirch Premium for Qsirch on the NAS from the QNAP Software Store.

The Qsirch mobile application supports searching by category and filtering your search results. For more information, see Searching for Files Using Qsirch Mobile.

Adding and Removing Filters

  1. Log on to the NAS.
  2. Open Qsirch on the NAS.
  3. Click More ().

    A menu list appears.

  4. Click Settings.

    The Settings window opens.

  5. Click Filter.
    Note:

    To see filters for a specific category, click a category on the left-hand side.

  6. Under the Show in Filter column, turn on the toggle to show a filter condition or turn off the toggle to hide a filter condition.
    Tip:

    Use the arrows underneath the Order column to move the filter condition up or down.

  7. Click Apply.

    Qsirch adds or removes filter conditions from the Filter section.

Using Filters on Qsirch

  1. Log on to the NAS.
  2. Open Qsirch.
  3. Optional: Add a filter.

    For details on how to add or remove a filter, go to Adding and Removing Filters.

  4. Under the Filter section, select the criteria you want to include or exclude in your search results.
    Tip:
    • To clear selected filters in a section, click beside the section title. To clear selected filters for all sections, click beside Filter.

    • To expand or collapse all filters, click beside Filter and select the appropriate option.

    Qsirch searches and displays the results.

Excluding Folders or Files From the Indexing Scope

Qsirch can skip over excluded folders and files for faster searches.

Note:

Only users in the administrator group can access this feature. For more information, see the Privilege section in the user guide for your operating system.

  1. Log on to the NAS.
  2. Open Qsirch.
  3. Click More ().

    A menu list appears.

  4. Click Settings.

    The Settings window opens.

  5. Select one of the following options.

    Exclude folders

    1. Click Add.

      The Choose folders window opens.

    2. Select a folder path.

    3. Click Apply.

      The folder path appears under Excluded folders (custom).

      Note:

      To remove a folder path from the custom list, select a folder path and click Remove.

    Exclude Files

    1. Click Exclude Files.

    2. Specify a file name.

    3. Click Add.

      The file name appears under the File List.

      Note:

      To remove a file from the File List, select the file and click Remove.

  6. Click Apply.

Using Advanced Image Index to Find Files

Advanced Image Index gives you more control over what images Qsirch looks for in specific folders.

Note:

Only users in the administrator group can change this setting. For more information, see the Privilege section in the user guide for your operating system.

  1. Log on to the NAS.
  2. Open Qsirch.
  3. Click More ().

    A menu list appears.

  4. Click Settings.
  5. Click Advanced image index.
  6. Add an advanced image indexing folder.
    1. Under Advanced Image Indexing Folders, click Add.

      The Choose folders window opens.

    2. Select at least one folder.
    3. Click Apply.

      The folder appears under Path.

      Note:

      You can also add a folder in Multimedia Console. Go to Multimedia Console > Content Management > Qsirch > Edit.

  7. Select at least one of the following.

Arranging Search Results

Qsirch allows you to arrange your search results directly on the application.

Using Qfiling to Organize Your Search Results

This task applies to Qsirch on the NAS.

With Qfiling, a QNAP file organization application, you can easily categorize your search results to different folders on the NAS. For more information, see the Creating a Task section of the Qfiling tutorial.

  1. Log in to the NAS.
  2. Open Qsirch.
  3. After searching for files, click Create Qfiling Task.

    The Filing Task window opens.

  4. Create a filing task.

Performing Miscellaneous Tasks on Qsirch

This applies to Qsirch on the NAS.

These tasks are designed to help you manage Qsirch and configure various settings for better productivity.

Finding Previous Searches

Qsirch keeps previously used keywords and categories to save your time when search on your NAS.

  1. Log on to the NAS.
  2. Open Qsirch.
  3. Click More ().

    A menu list appears.

  4. Click History.

    The History screen appears.

  5. Select a previous search result.
  6. Click .

Downloading a Debug Report

If you are experiencing problems with Qsirch, download a debug report and contact QNAP Technical Support for further assistance.

  1. Log on to the NAS.
  2. Open Qsirch
  3. Click More ().

    A menu list appears.

  4. Click Debug Report.

    The Debug Report window opens.

  5. Click Download.

Checking Your License Information

You can directly access License Manager to manage an existing license or the QNAP Software Store to buy a license.

  1. Log on to the NAS.
  2. Open Qsirch.
  3. On the top right-hand corner, click License Information ().

    The License Information window opens.

  4. Optional: Depending on your license status, click Manage License or Go Premium.

    Your browser opens a new window.

Performing Miscellaneous Tasks on Qsirch Mobile

Depending on your needs, you can use Qsirch to perform other miscellaneous tasks and configure the application.

Finding Previous Searches

Qsirch keeps previously used keywords and categories to save your time when search on your NAS.

  1. Open Qsirch.
  2. Tap .

    The sidebar menu appears.

  3. Tap History.

    The History screen appears.

  4. Tap a previous search result.
    Tip:
    • To search your task history, tap .

    • To delete a task, tap and select at least one task and then tap .

    Qsirch finds files based on the keywords or categories.

Managing Background Tasks

  1. Open Qsirch.
  2. Tap .

    The sidebar menu appears.

  3. Tap Background task.

    The Background task screen appears.

  4. Tap .

    A menu list appears.

  5. Select one of the following options.
    • Start all incomplete tasks

    • Stop all incomplete tasks

    • Remove all tasks

    • Remove all completed tasks

Configuring Settings

  1. Open Qsirch.
  2. Tap .

    The sidebar menu appears.

  3. Tap Settings.

    The Settings screen appears.

  4. Configure the following settings.

    Specifies the folder information required for offline search.

    1. Under Download folder, tap Folder size.

      The Folder size window opens.

    2. Select a folder size.

      Qsirch changes the folder size.

    3. Tap Path.

    5. Tap OK.

    Cache

    Displays the cache used.

    To clear the cache, tap Clear.

    History

    Displays your search history.

    To enable or disable this option, tap History.

    General

    Displays your general login settings.

    1. To enable or disable auto-login, tap Auto login.

    2. To create a passcode, tap Fingerprint & Passcode.

      The Create passcode screen appears.

    3. To select a different region, tap Region.

      The Region screen opens.

    Default File Exists Action Settings

    Displays the action Qsirch takes when downloading a file with the same name.

    1. Tap For downloads.

      The For downloads window opens.

    2. Select one of the following options:

      1. Overwrite

      2. Skip

Adding a QNAP ID

You can add more than one QNAP ID to give you more search options. Adding a QNAP ID adds all NAS devices associated with that account to Qsirch.

  1. Open Qsirch.
  2. Tap .

    The sidebar menu appears.

  3. Tap Manage QNAP ID.

    The Manage QNAP ID screen opens.

  4. Tap Sign in QNAP ID.

    The QNAP ID screen appears.

  5. Enter your log in credentials.
  6. Tap Sign in.

    A confirmation window opens.

  7. Tap OK.

    Qsirch adds your QNAP ID.

Deleting a QNAP ID

You can delete a QNAP ID and all its associated devices from Qsirch mobile or only remove the QNAP ID information.

  1. Open Qsirch.
  2. Tap .

    The sidebar menu appears.

  3. Tap Manage QNAP ID.

    The Manage QNAP ID screen opens.

  4. Tap a QNAP ID you would like to delete.

    The QNAP ID screen opens.

  5. Tap .

    Three options appear.

  6. Select one of the following options.

    Option

    Description

    Delete

    Deletes the QNAP ID and all associated devices.

    Keep

    Keeps all the NAS devices associated with the QNAP ID but removes the ID from the list.

    Cancel

    Goes back to the QNAP ID screen.
