Firmware recovery is a special procedure intended to restore the NAS operating system when it cannot boot normally, but hardware is otherwise functional. It should only be used in specific situations to avoid unnecessary risks.

Recommendation
You should perform firmware recovery only when:

  • You have removed all hard drives from the NAS and powered it on.
  • In this no-disk state, Qfinder Pro still cannot detect the NAS, even when the NAS and PC are on the same local network or directly connected.
  • The NAS emits one beep sound after powering on, indicating it has passed the BIOS POST (self-test).

If both conditions are met, your NAS hardware is likely functional, but the firmware may be corrupted. In this case, firmware recovery is appropriate.

Additonal Note
If you only want to reinstall the operating system or initialize the NAS (for example, to erase all data and start fresh), you do not need to perform firmware recovery. Instead, you can do this through the standard Initialize System process in QTS/QuTS hero Setup Wizard or Control Panel. Firmware recovery should be reserved for cases where the NAS cannot boot normally and Qfinder Pro cannot detect it in no-disk mode.
