How does the power button function on my QNAP NAS?

Overview
The power button on your QNAP NAS allows you to turn the device on and off. However, the required press-and-hold durations for a software or hardware shutdown differ depending on the hardware platform of your NAS model (x86 or ARM).
Details
You can perform a software or hardware shutdown by holding the power button for a specific duration:
| Platform | Software Shutdown (Press & Hold Duration) | Hardware Shutdown (Press & Hold Duration) |
|---|---|---|
| x86 | 1.5–2 seconds | 5–6 seconds |
| ARM (e.g., TS-831X) | 4–5 seconds | 9–10 seconds |
If you do not hold the button for the required time, the NAS will remain powered on and the shutdown will not occur.
Note: A software shutdown safely powers off your NAS by shutting down all services, while a hardware shutdown performs a forced power off (only use if the NAS is unresponsive).
Alternative: You can also shut down the NAS from the web GUI. Simply log in, go to the main menu, and select Shut Down from the power options.
