How do I set up a direct connection test environment between my NAS and computer?
Applicable Products
- All NAS Series
- Qfinder Pro
Overview
Setting up a direct connection test environment allows you to connect your NAS directly to your computer using an Ethernet cable. This method is useful for diagnosing issues such as:
- NAS not detected by File Explorer, Finder, or Qfinder Pro: A direct connection eliminates other network devices, helping determine if the issue is with the NAS or the network environment.
- Slow data transfer speeds: Direct connection provides a baseline (typically around 100 MB/s with Gigabit Ethernet) to help identify if your network setup is affecting file transfer performance.
Procedure
Connect your NAS directly to your computer using an Ethernet cable.
Configure a static IP address on your computer:
- IP Address: 169.254.100.99
- Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
- Gateway: Leave empty
For detailed instructions:
Download and install Qfinder Pro on your computer.
Run Qfinder Pro and locate your NAS. You can then open your NAS in File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac).
Test file transfer speeds by copying a file between your computer and the NAS.
