In case of NAS hardware failure, you can take the drives from your old QNAP NAS (source) and install them in a new QNAP NAS (destination).

What data can be migrated?

Data and Settings Status After Migration
Applications Some applications must be reinstalled.
Services Only services supported by the destination NAS are available.
Multimedia features Some multimedia features are disabled by default.
Shared folders Shared folders and their files are retained.
Windows AD configuration Windows AD configurations are not migrated.
Registered myQNAPcloud name Your registered myQNAPcloud name is not migrated. To use the same myQNAPcloud name on the destination NAS, perform the following. Before migration, change your myQNAPcloud name on the source NAS. After migration, register your original myQNAPcloud name on the destination NAS.
Licenses Licenses are not migrated.
Encrypted disk volumes If the destination NAS does not support file system encryption, encrypted disk volumes are not migrated.

Move your hard drives to the destination NAS

Important:
  • Both the source and destination NAS must support migration. You must check your NAS compatibility before proceeding.
  • If migration is not supported, you can still migrate data by backing up the source NAS and copying this data to the destination NAS.
  1. Before installing any disks, upgrade the destination NAS to the latest NAS firmware.
  2. Power off the destination NAS.
  3. Power off the source NAS.
  4. Once powered off, remove the hard drives from the source NAS.
Important: Take note of the hard drive order as they must be installed in the same order.
  1. Remove the hard drives from their drive trays.
  2. Attach the hard drives to the drive trays of the destination NAS.
  3. Install the hard drives into the destination NAS using the same drive order.
  4. Power on the destination NAS.
  5. Log in to QTS as an administrator.
  6. Confirm that your data has been migrated.
  7. Check the system logs.
Important: If there is a log entry for The firmware versions of the system built-in flash and hardware are not consistent, go to Control Panel > Firmware Update and update the firmware to the latest version.
