How do I resolve an FW004 error when updating firmware?

Scenario

When updating the NAS firmware to QTS 4.4.1 or later, you receive a Failed to update system. A flash read/write error occurred. Error code: FW004 error.

Solution

To resolve this issue, you'll need to update the NAS firmware to a specific version before you can update to the current firmware.

  1. Use the following table to identify and download the two firmware images for your NAS.

  2. Manually update the NAS with the initial firmware image. For details, see here.
  3. Run the Live update process to update the firmware to the current version.
