Perfect storage trio: tiered storage, application-based partitioning & network traffic distribution
The advanced hardware design of TVS-1582TU can facilitate optimized storage deployment based on different usage scenarios.
With Qtier Technology that empowers Auto Tiering, the TVS-1582TU can automatically move frequently-used "hot" data to high-performance SSD storage tiers and less-accessed "cold" data to lower-cost, higher-capacity SATA drives, making the TVS-1582TU an extremely efficient shared resource. Qtier now supports “On Demand Allocation Priority”, providing customizable flexibility to arrange tiered storage suited for your system environments and application demands.
Every application requires different performance. For example, Surveillance Station requires higher-priority access to storage to ensure the integrity of recordings, while normal transmission speeds are sufficient for file sharing. However, when multiple applications are running on the same storage media, the required throughput level cannot be guaranteed as the storage media is busy handling I/O requests from all of them. The TVS-1582TU supports SSD and SATA hard drives, and they can be configured as independent partitions for different applications, ensuring a sufficient throughput level for every application.
Network Traffic Distribution
With 1GbE ports, 10GbE ports and Thunderbolt™3 ports, the TVS-1582TU allows applications to use dedicated interfaces to meet network traffic distribution requirements. Network interfaces can also be easily managed with the Network & Virtual Switch app, which enables optimized network resources for TVS-1582TU, virtual machines and containerized apps. No matter if they are business organizations or individual users, they can effortlessly manage network connections by using the Network & Virtual Switch.
Optimize 4K workflows with 4K HDMI output
The TVS-1582TU supports4K @30Hz through HDMI output, providing great benefits for applications like video production/editing, industrial design and professional photography that demand on-image resolution and color realism as well as intensive media storage, transfer and display. While the rack-mountable TVS-1582TU makes it easily usable in SNG/OB vehicles, it provides a quality, efficient 4K storage environment for fast-paced media industries. Powered by 14nm 7th Generation Intel® multi-core processors with Intel® HD Graphics, the TVS-1582TU delivers superior real-time 4K (H.264) and 1080p video transcoding to convert videos to universal formats that can be smoothly played on PCs, mobile devices and Smart TVs.
1. Which video formats support hardware acceleration?
2. Supported video formats depend on the hardware and software specifications of the devices. Playback capability and quality may vary due to factors including the original file formats/quality, hardware and software limitations, and output devices.
Access 10GbE networks over Thunderbolt with Thunderbolt-to-Ethernet (T2E)
As Apple® computers do not natively support 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Mac® users previously needed to purchase a Thunderbolt-to-Ethernet adapter to connect to high-speed Ethernet networks. The innovative Thunderbolt-to-Ethernet (T2E) allows computers without Ethernet ports (such as MacBook Pro®) to access 10GbE network resources over a Thunderbolt™ connection to the TVS-1582TU. This saves users from having to buy adapters or converters and greatly streamlines the connectivity process.
Note: T2E transmission speed may be affected when using a virtual switch. QNAP aims to continue improving and optimizing T2E performance.
Thunderbolt™ 3/NAS/iSCSI SAN triple solution
The TVS-1582TU can simultaneously run general Ethernet services in addition to the Thunderbolt™ 3 network, completely independently and with no bandwidth interference. As an unmatched NAS that combines Thunderbolt™, NAS and iSCSI SAN into one box, the TVS-1582TU prevents the restriction of DAS connecting to only one device, and breaks the cost barrier for creating 10GbE high-speed network environments.
Thunderbolt™ NAS mode
Simply attach your computer to the TVS-1582TU with a Thunderbolt™ 3 cable, and you will find the TVS-1582TU in Finder/File Explorer with accessible shared folders available for you. It is plug-and-use, and completely simple.
Ethernet NAS mode
The TVS-1582TU also features Ethernet networking for flexible file sharing across multiple devices simultaneously using SMB/CIFS, AFP and NFS for sharing across Windows®, Mac® and Linux®/UNIX® networks. Use Qfinder Pro to find the TVS-1582TU attached to your computer, and you can find the Thunderbolt IP and Ethernet IP for file sharing based on your needs.
iSCSI SAN block-based mode
The TVS-1582TU supports iSCSI SAN configuration, while the Thunderbolt™ interface can contribute a lot to iSCSI SAN storage performance. After creating an iSCSI target on the TVS-1582TU, you can access the iSCSI with your computer* through Thunderbolt IP.
*iSCSI initiator for Mac: ATTO Xtend SAN or SNS globalSAN; for Windows: Microsoft iSCSI initiator.
Flexibly attach, share, and expand in 4 ways
With four Thunderbolt™ 3 ports on the TVS-1582TU, you can flexibly arrange the connection of your computer workstations with the TVS-1582TU and its storage expansion enclosures based on your needs.

You can also take advantage of the built-in 10GbE LAN card for multi-device file sharing over a 10GbE network at the same time.
Optimal collaboration (Mac + Mac)
When using multiple workstations to work together to speed up a project, you can connect each workstation separately to the Thunderbolt™ 3 ports on the TVS-1582TU to enjoy simultaneous, speedy video editing.
Dividing resources (Mac + NAS)
Large video production studios often require multiple servers to increase productivity with different workflow stages, such as capturing, editing, production, post-production, and dubbing. In this situation it can be helpful to daisy chain an additional 6 TVS-1582TU units to the original TVS-1582TU and arrange each NAS for dedicated workflow stages, while the other Thunderbolt™ 3 ports are connected to the workstations for smoothly accessing large-sized video files. Meanwhile, each TVS-1582TU allows file sharing with multiple devices through Gigabit or 10 Gigabit Ethernet network.
Seamless expansion (JBOD+JBOD)
Rest assured your massive files are safely stored in the TVS-1582TU which supports seamless capacity expansion to offer you abundant storage. You can connect multiple QNAP storage expansion enclosures to the TVS-1582TU through Thunderbolt™ 3 ports or USB ports to enjoy huge storage capacity, and share files via 10GbE network.
