Why is my NAS is not automatically updating or notifying me about a new firmware version that has been released?
Applicable Products
QTS 5.0.1.2277 and later, QuTS hero h5.0.1.2277 and later
Scenario
A newer firmware version has been released, but you did not receive a notification and your system did not automatically update. This will be the case if the new firmware version is a canary release and the current canary release stage does not yet include your NAS.
Overview
Certain QNAP firmware updates are released on QNAP Download Center and other QNAP apps, such as Q'Center, as a canary release. A canary firmware release is a version of firmware that is only available for certain selected NAS devices initially and is then made available to other NAS devices in progressive stages over time according to the following table:
Canary Release Stage | Availability |
---|---|
Initial release | Download Center, Q'center |
Stage 1 |
|
Stage 2 |
|
Stage 3 |
|
The progressive release schedule of a canary firmware release allows an initial subset of users to adopt the firmware update and report any bugs or provide feedback before the firmware update receives widespread distribution.
Automatic updates for canary firmware releases
If your NAS operating system has automatic updates enabled, then your system will not automatically update your system with a canary firmware release until the canary release stage includes your NAS device. When the canary release stage includes your NAS device, your system will automatically update.
Notifications for canary firmware releases
If firmware update notifications are enabled, you will not receive notifications for a canary firmware release until the canary release stage includes your NAS device. When the canary release stage includes your NAS device, you will receive notifications for the canary firmware release.
Firmware notification settings can be configured in Control Panel > System > Firmware Update > Firmware Update (tab) > Firmware Update Settings:
