How to avoid sudden shutdown from power outage?

Root cause

A sudden loss of power can stop your NAS from safely saving data to its storage devices, which may lead to data loss or file system corruption.

Solution

  1. Use a compatible UPS: Connect a compatible uninterruptible power supply (UPS) between your NAS and the power outlet. This allows your NAS to shut down safely during unexpected power interruptions.
  2. Configure UPS settings: Set up your NAS to detect power loss and perform an auto-shutdown in Control Panel > System > External Device > UPS.
  3. Check file system if a sudden shutdown occurs: After an unexpected power loss, check your volume status. If the file system is "not clean," run a file system check via Storage & Snapshots > Storage/Snapshots > select your volume > Manage > File System Check.
  4. Back up your data regularly to prevent data loss in case of unexpected events.
