How do I set up on-the-fly transcoding in QuMagie?
Applicable Products
QuMagie 1.7.0 and later
Solution
The on-the-fly transcoding allows QuMagie to convert video files to MPEG-4 format, while the video is being streamed, for improved compatibility with media players on mobile devices, smart TVs, and web browsers. On-the-fly transcoding can also scale down the resolution of video files to prevent buffering in slower network environments.
On-the-fly transcoding can be enabled for non-administrative NAS users in QuMagie 1.7.0 and later. To enable on-the-fly transcoding, perform the following steps:
- Log into the NAS with an administrator account.
- Open QuMagie.
- On the top right corner, click
.
An dropdown action menu appears. - Click Settings.
The Settings window opens. - Go to the Miscellaneous tab.
- Under General, click Edit Permission.
The On-the-fly Transcoding Permission window opens. - Locate a user.
- Under the On-the-fly Transcoding column of the user, select the checkbox.

- Click Apply.
The user now has permission to use on-the-fly transcoding when streaming videos.
