How do I ensure there is enough space in a shared folder to restore snapshot files?

Last modified date: 2025-08-20

Applicable Products

  • Operating systems: QTS, QuTS hero
  • Applications: Storage & Snapshots, Storage Manager, Snapshot Manager

Overview

When restoring snapshot files to a local shared folder or a new shared folder, it is important to verify that the target folder has enough capacity to store the files in their uncompressed form. If the original files were compressed, they occupy less disk space. However, if the target folder does not have compression enabled, the files will be restored at their full, uncompressed size. If there is not enough available space, the restoration process may fail.

Recommendation

  • Choose a shared folder with sufficient available space to accommodate the uncompressed files you are restoring.
  • If necessary, create a new shared folder and manually allocate enough capacity for the restoration. Avoid simply duplicating the original folder settings.
  • Consider enabling compression on the target folder if you wish to save storage space.
