Details

How is the required bandwidth and required storage capacity calculated?

Required bandwidth is calculated based on your number of cameras, frame rate, quality, video format, and resolution.

Required storage capacity is calculated based on the Recording Size (Single Channel) Per Day multiplied by your number of cameras and days.

How do I read the results?

Your recommended NAS are listed with their potential storage capacities, RAM, supported applications and operating systems, capabilities, and required number of NAS and channels.

The recording algorithm in QVR Elite and QVR Proe is slightly different. QVR Pro writes more often, more securely, and prevents recording corruption from power outages. QVR Elite is more efficient while writing and is able to run on entry-level models. QVR Elite may run on QuTS hero with a smaller number of channels when it is not a dedicated surveillance server due to the nature of the ZFS filesystem used by QuTS hero.

Recording bandwidth refers to the actual random writing capacity for the data streams when the disk bays are fully loaded. In some cases even if the recommended number of channels are not reached but when the IP cameras are all set to high bandwidth, some models may not appear in the list because the cameras' combination may need more bandwidth for stable writing operations.

Setting more channels than the recommended number of channels may result in the NAS becoming more sensitive to the hard drive's writing speed.
