How do I automatically mount a QNAP network drive after rebooting macOS 26.2?

Last modified date: 2026-01-07

Applicable Products

  • Qfinder Pro for macOS
  • QNAP NAS (all models supporting SMB/AFP/NFS network shares)
  • macOS 26.2 and later

Scenario

After updating to macOS 26.2, network drives (server volumes) mounted from your QNAP NAS are automatically unmounted after a system reboot. By default, macOS 26.2 does not automatically reconnect to previously mounted network servers at login. This is a system-level change in macOS and is not caused by Qfinder Pro or your QNAP NAS.

Solution

  1. Manually connect to the network drive:
    • Use Qfinder Pro or Finder's Connect to Server on your Mac to connect to mount your network drive (for example, smb://<NAS_IP>/Public).
    • Ensure the network drive appears on your desktop or in Finder under "Locations".
  2. Open System Settings:
    • Click the Apple menu in the upper-left corner and select System Settings .
  3. Access Login Items:
    • In System Preferences, go to GeneralLogin Items & Extensions.
  4. Add the network drive to Open at Login:
    • In the Open at Login section, click the + button.
    • In the pop-up window, select the mounted network drive (for example, Public).
    • Click Open to add it to the login items list.

After completing these steps, your QNAP network drive will automatically mount and open each time you restart and log in to your Mac running macOS 26.2.

Note: If you change the network drive's name or location, you may need to repeat these steps.

Limitations

  • This behavior is due to changes in macOS 26.2 and is not related to Qfinder Pro or your QNAP NAS.
  • If your NAS requires credentials at login, you may be prompted to enter them each time unless credentials are saved in your macOS keychain.
  • Network connectivity must be available at login for automatic mounting to succeed.
