Why is RAM usage so high in QuTS hero?

QuTS hero uses the ZFS file system, which uses Adaptive Replacement Cache (ARC), an algorithm that utilizes as much available RAM as possible to optimize system performance.

If you want to give applications more RAM access, you can lower the maximum ARC RAM usage by going to Storage & Snapshots > Global Settings > Storage > ARC RAM Usage.

Note: This setting is disabled if the total NAS RAM size is 8 GB, because then the minimum and maximum ARC RAM usage would be the same.
