Why is Microsoft Networking service (Samba) not working after resetting my NAS?

Scenario

After resetting your NAS, the Microsoft Networking service (Samba) is no longer working.

This FAQ will explain how to restore the Microsoft Networking service after resetting your NAS.

Solution

Open Control Panel.
Go to Network & File Services > Win/Mac/NFS/WebDAV > Microsoft Networking.
Ensure that Enable file service for Microsoft networking is selected.
Under Workgroup, specify a workgroup name.
Click Apply.
Microsoft Networking service should be working now.
