How do I reconnect a VJBOD disk or remote disk after changing an iSCSI target IQN?
Applicable Products
- QuTS hero
- Storage & Snapshots
Background
Changing an iSCSI target's IQN (iSCSI Qualified Name) can affect an iSCSI LUN's existing connections. Specifically, a VJBOD disk or remote disk created from a LUN mapped to the iSCSI target may become disconnected, with no obvious method for reconnecting the VJBOD disk or remote disk.
Solution
To reconnect a VJBOD disk or remote disk that was disconnected due to a change to the LUN's iSCSI target IQN, you must manually remove the VJBOD disk or remote disk from the local NAS, and then recreate the VJBOD disk or remote disk using the same LUN. For details, see one of the following instructions.
Reconnecting a VJBOD Disk after iSCSI Target IQN Change
To reconnect the disconnected VJBOD disk, you must first remove the storage pool of the VJBOD disk on the local NAS. After the storage pool is properly removed, you can remove the VJBOD disk, and then recreate the VJBOD disk using the same LUN from the remote NAS.
- Remove the storage pool of the disconnected VJBOD disk.
- Log in to the local NAS.
- Open Storage & Snapshots.
- Go to Storage > Storage/Snapshots.
- Select the storage pool of the disconnected VJBOD disk.
- Click Manage.
The storage pool management window opens. - Click Action > Remove Pool.
A confirmation window opens. - Click OK.
QuTS hero removes the storage pool.
- Delete the VJBOD disk.
- In Storage & Snapshots, go to Storage > Disks/VJBOD > Disks.
- Select the disconnected VJBOD disk.
- Click Action > Delete.
A confirmation window appears.NoteDeleting the VJBOD disk only removes the disk from the local NAS. The LUN and all data will remain on the remote NAS. When recreating the VJBOD disk in the next step, you can choose to restore the existing storage pool and data on the VJBOD disk. - Click OK.
QuTS hero removes the VJBOD disk.
- Recreate the VJBOD disk using the same LUN.
- In Storage & Snapshots, go to Storage > Disks/VJBOD > Disks.
- Click VJBOD > Create Virtual JBOD.
The Create Virtual JBOD Disk Wizard opens. - Follow the on-screen instructions until you reach the summary page.
For details, see "Creating a VJBOD disk from an existing LUN" in the QuTS hero User Guide. - Click Next.
- Select Recover Existing Data.
- Click Finish.
The Attach and Recover Storage Pool window opens. - Click Attach.
The Attach Storage Pool Wizard window opens. - Click Apply.
The VJBOD disk is now reconnected using the new IQN.
Reconnecting a Remote Disk after iSCSI Target IQN Change
You must delete the remote disk on the local NAS and then create a new remote disk using the same iSCSI LUN. This allows the system to connect to the LUN using the new IQN.
- Delete the remote disk on the local NAS.
- Log in to the local NAS.
- Open Storage & Snapshots.
- Go to Storage > Remote Disk.
- Select the disconnected remote disk.
- Click Action > Delete.NoteThis action only disconnects the remote disk and deletes its shared folder. Existing data on the disk will not be deleted from the LUN.
- Add the LUN as a remote disk on the local NAS again.
For details on certain steps, see "Adding a remote disk" in the QuTS hero User Guide.- In Storage & Snapshots, go to Storage > Remote Disk.
- Click Add Virtual Disk.
The Add Virtual Disk window opens. - Specify the IP address or hostname of the remote NAS.
- Optional: Specify the iSCSI port of the remote NAS.
- Click Get Remote Disk.
QuTS hero connects to the remote NAS and then lists all available iSCSI targets. - Select the iSCSI target that your LUN is mapped to.
- Optional: Specify a CHAP username and password.
- Optional: Enable CRC checksums.
- Click Next.
- Specify the disk name.
- Select your LUN.
- Ensure the Format virtual disk now setting is deselected.Warning
Selecting this setting will permanently delete all data on the LUN. To restore the data to your remote disk, you must not select this setting.
- Select an I/O mode.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
The remote disk is now reconnected using the new IQN.
