How to manually update the firmware by SSH?

Procedure

This topic explains how to update the QTS firmware over an SSH connection. You can use this process to upgrade or downgrade the firmware.

  1. Locate the firmware for your device.
    1. Identify the model name and current firmware version of your device. For instructions, see here.
    2. Go to the Download Center.
    3. Under Product type, select NAS/Expansion.
    4. Under Bay, select the number of drive bays for your NAS.
    5. Under Model, select your NAS model.
    6. In the Download items section, click Operating System.
      The list is filtered to only display firmware versions available for your device.
  2. Download the firmware file for your device.
    1. Identify a firmware version.
    2. Click the icon in the Remarks column.
      A list of release notes is displayed.
    3. Review the release notes for any specific instructions.
    4. Click an icon in the Download Link column.
      The firmware download is prepared. After the download completes, you must extract the firmware image from the .zip file.
  3. Upload the firmware image to the Public folder on the NAS.
  4. Open an SSH connection to your NAS. For details, see here.
  5. Run ln -sf /mnt/HDA_ROOT/update /mnt/update.
  6. Run /etc/init.d/update.sh /share/Public/{FIRMWARE_FILE_NAME}.img.
  7. Run reboot.
