Airgap+
Physically isolates backup NAS from the public network, delivering maximum security and stability against cyber threats.
What is Airgap+?
Airgap+ is a feature of QNAP’s Hybrid Backup Sync (HBS 3) to achieve air-gapped backups.
- Airgap+ works with QNAP’s QHora routers to automatically control the link up/down status between NAS devices.
- Connectivity is enabled only during backup/sync jobs and is disconnected immediately after, minimizing network exposure.
Why is Airgap+ effective?
Disconnected by default
The backup NAS remains isolated from all network access—except when temporarily connected for scheduled backup jobs.
Physically isolated
Provides the most secure and stable protection with network isolation.

Case 2
Advanced: Backup via bridge NAS
In this setup, the QHora router blocks access from the main file server to the destination NAS, enabling it to totally isolate the destination NAS within a secure Intranet. Also, backup operations are centralized on a bridge NAS to conserve the main file server’s CPU resources.
