Symptom

If you see the following error message in the System Event Log, your disk may have encountered an invalid data error.

[Bad Block Log]: Invalid data found on Disk {x}

System Event Log records this message when the system detects invalid data in a RAID group. This issue usually occurs when a new bad block is encountered and recorded in the bad block log. It may be an I/O error that the RAID group has tried to fix but failed to fix.

Solution

A RAID group usually cannot fix a bad block issue by itself. We recommend checking the S.M.A.R.T. information of your disk and running a test. If this disk is located on an expansion enclosure connected to the NAS, you should also check the status of the expansion enclosure and its cable. To view S.M.A.R.T. disk information and run a test, go to Storage & Snapshots > Disk/VJBOD > Disk Health. If S.M.A.R.T. shows your disk as healthy but this issue still persists, you can contact QNAP Support for further assistance.
