How to set up a high availability cluster?

This guide explains how to establish a High Availability (HA) cluster for two QNAP NAS devices. While there are multiple HA types that can prevent service interruption, this tutorial will mainly focus on the Active-Standby mode.
- Both NAS devices must be the same model and have the same configuration.
- QNAP High Availability only supports QuTS hero and Active-Standby mode.
- QNAP High Availability only supports static node IP addresses.
- QuTS hero h5.3 close beta does not support updating to h5.3 public beta.
Procedure
- Start High Availability Manager.
- Follow the instructions on the wizard and ensure that you meet the requirements for High Availability.
- Select a network interface for the cluster connection and a network interface for the heartbeat connection.
- Enter the credentials of an administrator account on the passive node. If 2-step verification is enabled on the passive node, you must disable 2-step verification before you continue.
- Ensure that both devices meet the requirements for High Availability.
- Configure network settings. Specify a cluster hostname and a cluster IP address.
- Review the settings.
Warning
Once you have established High Availability, all data on the passive node will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
High Availability Manager creates a High Availability cluster.
When the cluster is created, High Availability Manager will display the status of High Availability on the dashboard.
On the passive node, the desktop shows the device is currently in Maintenance Mode.
After creating the cluster, you can find HA NAS devices in Qfinder Pro, which shows whether a device is an active node or a passive node.
