Interspace Co., Ltd. is an Internet affiliate company in Japan. The company also serves the Asian region and has over 400 employees.
Interspace previously used storage from another NAS provider, and accommodated their business system's virtual server backup and shared storage with a single machine. As the business grew, the storage capacity and load increased, and Interspace realized that a new storage solution was needed.
When considering solutions to their storage problems, Interspace prioritized three factors: high availability, efficient backup capabilities, and cost. After careful consideration and research, they chose QNAP's ES2486dc , TS-h1283XU-RP and TS-h1886XU-RP . The ES2486dc was selected as the data store storage for the virtual environment in the server room of the headquarters. It is an all-flash NAS with dual active controllers, which enables high-speed data transfer while providing redundancy. The TS-h1283XU-RP with Intel® Xeon® E processor was selected for backup storage, while the TS-h1886XU-RP was deployed for backup of the virtual environment operated in a separate data center from the headquarters. It is mainly used for thin client storage and data backup for their accounting system.
QNAP NAS supports up to 65,535 snapshots for higher data protection. The ES2486dc and TS-h1283XU-RP can use SnapSync for remote snapshot replication, which ensures that in the event of a primary-site failure, critical services can be resumed using snapshots recovery in the shortest possible time. QNAP's Hybrid Backup Sync (HBS 3) is used for backups, and the deduplication feature automatically removes duplicate data to optimize size of the backup. QNAP's NAS can be operated via GUI or command line, so it was very easy to set up, and it took only two weeks for them to set up all three units. Interspace is also satisfied with its cost efficiency. They could install the main storage unit, the ES2486dc, for about three quarters of the price of similar models from other vendors. In addition, QNAP's NAS offers a high degree of flexibility in terms of disk selection and memory expansion to suit their future needs.
