Why do backup and sync jobs finish with the warning message “Failed to create snapshot” when the source is an encrypted volume?

By default, Hybrid Backup Sync takes a snapshot at the start of each backup or sync job. It then uses this snapshot as the backup source.
If Hybrid Backup Sync is unable to take a snapshot of an encrypted volume, ensure that the volume is unlocked and that there is a copy of the encryption key saved on the NAS. To save the encryption key to the NAS, select “Save Encryption Key” when unlocking the volume or select “Actions” > “Encryption” > “Save” in the volume’s management window.
