ORPA Papír a.s. is a leading paper core manufacturer in Lanškroun, Czech Republic. Until recently they used a physical server to run all of their services and applications, and backed up data to tape drives. MAJT s.r.o., a computer facilities management services provider, helped them to install a virtualization solution using QNAP solutions.
ORPA Papír a.s. traditionally used tape drives to back up their data. While providing dependable storage space, tape drives lack the flexibility and management of modern solutions. If a process fails, restoring data from tape drives can be time consuming and does not guarantee data will be recovered until tapes are read back. To modernize their IT infrastructure and protect against financial losses caused by IT infrastructure failure, ORPA Papír a.s. looked for a comprehensive solution that is easily manageable, can be quickly troubleshooted, and provides secure backup with instant recovery.
MAJT s.r.o. proposed virtualizing their existing services and separating data and applications in different storage tiers using QNAP NAS solutions. ORPA Papír a.s. adopted a TS-873U-RP-8G as their primary file server, a TS-431X-2G as secondary backup, and a QSW-804-4C 10GbE network switch to enable fast data transfer between devices. By running services on virtualized servers, each individual service does not interfere each other and avoids collisions with other applications. This solution increases the stability of their entire IT environment, providing not only streamlined backup processes but enabling timely repair if a server fails.
By implementing virtualization and separating data and applications in different storage tiers, ORPA Papír a.s. achieved both efficient operation of IT environments and reliable backup processes.
