What transfer speed should i expect?

Last modified date: 2023-02-13
Applicable Products:
  • Storage & Snapshots

Here the some examples

  • Copy a single 4GB ISO file by Windows Fire Explorer/macOS finder from the NAS to a directed connected PC over a wired 1Gbps network, you can see a steady transfer speed around 100MB/s.
  • Copy a single file over wireless network, the expected speed can be around from 1 to 30 MB/s which depends on Wireless Signal Strength and Wifi Protocol in use between the router and wireless client. If meeting low speed issue, confirm wired connection speed first.
  • Copy a folder with multiple subfolders and files, you can see the realtime transfer speed go up and down from KB/s in small files e.g. TXT, JPG files to MB/s in big files eg. MOV, ISO files.
  • If you have a proper 10Gbps network configuraiton which provides the speed around 1000MB/s, the buttleneck could be on the speed on the storage can provide. Recommend to check performance page in QNAP website for ideal setup.
