Backup and restore

Where is restored data stored after clicking the "Restore" button?

A restore folder is created on the cloud when Boxafe performs restore actions. This folder contains all the data of the restored corresponding version.

What are the requirements for backing up and viewing the data of Microsoft 365 users?

Microsoft Exchange must be enabled to back up and view the data of Microsoft 365 domain users.

Why are some tasks getting skipped?

If there are multiple similar tasks in the queue, then only the first task in the queue will run, and other similar tasks in the queue will be skipped and their status will show "skipped".

Does Boxafe support Microsoft 365 in Germany and Office 365 operated by 21Vianet?

Boxafe does not support these services.

What happens when a domain is deleted from Boxafe?

All the information about the domain is deleted.

If you selected the option Delete backed up files from the NAS, then all the backed up data corresponding to that domain is also deleted.

Non-admin users mapped to any of the domain user accounts are also removed from Boxafe.

Where are the files backed up by Boxafe stored? Can I make another backup?

The file data backed up by Boxafe is stored in the application folder of Boxafe.

You cannot browse or copy the backup using File Station. You can only perform backup and restore operations using Boxafe.

I can use Boxafe to backup the conversation for one Microsoft Teams account. But when trying to backup conversations for multiple Teams accounts I receive the error: "The request cannot be processed. The content type format is not supported".

This error occurs if you are using the Microsoft Teams API in Evaluation Mode and the limitations of this mode have been reached.

For more information, see Licensing and payment requirements for the Microsoft Teams API.

Why does Boxafe backup of Microsoft 365 with 3 Tenants/domains take multiple days to complete?

The number of tasks Boxafe can run simultaneously depends on the number of cores of the NAS CPU. If their are four (n) CPU cores, Boxafe can only run three (n-1) tasks at the same time.

For example: if Boxafe backups three Tenants/domains with eight services (including Email, Calendar, Contacts, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams), and if there are three domains and with 43, 2341 and 32 users in each domain, that means the Boxafe must run 19328 tasks ((43+2341+32) * 8). This number of tasks will take a long time and is normal.

To avoid this situation it is not recommended to back up every domain at the same time. Use incremental or limited backup whenever possible.

Why can't I see images in the event description for a calendar in the restored folder for Microsoft 365?

If you have restored a backed up calendar event from Boxafe to Microsoft 365, and that event had an embedded image in its description, then that image will appear as broken in the Boxafe calendar restore folder.

The same image will be added as an attachment to the event in the calendar on the Microsoft 365 cloud.

Users and permissions

What are the permissions and access rights for non-admin users?

Non-admin users cannot access the Dashboard and are limited to only viewing the Domains page, Task page, and Logs page.

The Domains page is read only and the action, service health, and users columns are not displayed. Users cannot be selected or viewed. Non-admin users can view their email, calendar, contacts, drive, and shared drive information. Backup functionality is not provided, but there is limited restore functionality.

The Task page only displays non-admin tasks and tasks that belong to mapped domain users.

The Logs page is read only and does not display system logs, system-level user logs, or domain level user logs.

Help and Quick Start are not available for non-admin users.

How do I sync the user list with Google Workspace or Microsoft 365?

You can manually update the user list by following the Add User wizard and clicking the Sync New Users button.

What is a Boxafe user?

A NAS user can be added as a Boxafe user and assigned the role of admin or non-admin from the Boxafe Settings page.

The NAS admin will be the default admin user of Boxafe.

What is the difference between domain users and Boxafe users?

Domain users exist on the cloud and are added from the domain (for example: john@example.com).

Boxafe users are NAS users that have been added to Boxafe. Boxafe users can also be mapped to a domain email address.

Can we add LDAP/AD users to Boxafe?

Boxafe does not currently support adding LDAP/AD users to Boxafe.

If LDAP/AD users are added as NAS users, these users can be manually mapped to the domain users. Automatic mapping is not supported.
