Why can’t I use Microsoft Hyper-V to create VHDX virtual disk or virtual machine in the Turbo NAS via Microsoft Network Services?

If an error message “General access denied error (0x80070005)” is shown when you try to use Microsoft Hyper-V to create VHDX virtual disk or virtual machine (VM) on the Turbo NAS via Microsoft Network Services, please follow the steps below to change the SMB version.

Turbo NAS version: QTS 4.0.5

  1. Login the Turbo NAS and go to “Control Panel” > “Network Services” > “Win/Mac/NFS” > “Microsoft Networking” > “Advanced Options”.
  2. Disable the option “Enable SMB 2”.
  3. Click “Apply”.

Turbo NAS version: QTS 4.1 or above

  1. Login the NAS and go to “Control Panel” > “Network Services” > “Win/Mac/NFS” > “Microsoft Networking” > “Advanced Options”.
  2. Select “SMB 2.0” from the Highest SMB version drop-down menu.
  3. Click “Apply”.
