How can I use Plex hardware transcoding on my NAS?

Last modified date: 2023-01-03

Applicable Products:

  • A NAS with a Nvidia graphics card

To use Plex hardware transcoding, you must meet the following requirements:

  • An active Plex pass
  • A NAS with a Nvidia graphics card

Before you begin, check the QNAP compatibility list for a list of compatible graphics cards. Locate your NAS model and select GPGPU from the category menu. If GPGPU isn’t listed, your NAS model doesn’t support graphics cards and you will not be able to use hardware transcoding.

After installing the graphics card, use the following steps:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Hardware > Hardware Resource
  2. Select QTS mode.

For additional information, see the Using Hardware-Accelerated Streaming article on the Plex website.
