Can I Convert a Static Volume to Thin or Thick?

Last modified date: 2020-10-08

Applied models:

  • All NAS Series

Applied Firmware:

  • 4.4.1 or above

It is not possible to convert a static volume to a thin or thick volume (also called “flexible volumes”).

Static volumes are created directly from a RAID group. While thin or thick volumes are created inside a Storage Pool.

To be able to use the flexible volumes features, one would need to:

  • Backup data from the static volume

  • Remove the static volume

  • Create new Storage Pool

  • Create a thin or thick volume inside the new Storage Pool

  • Copy the data back.
