Users who register a custom domain (via DDNS or an external DNS provider) may want to enable HTTPS access to their QNAP NAS. QTS provides built-in support for obtaining SSL certificates from Let’s Encrypt, making this process straightforward.

Solution

Follow the steps below to install an SSL certificate from Let’s Encrypt for your custom domain:

Ensure the following prerequisites are met:
1. Your NAS must be accessible from the internet using the custom domain (e.g., yourname.ddns.net).
2. Port 80 (HTTP) must be open and properly forwarded from your router to the NAS.
3. The custom domain must resolve to the NAS’s public IP address.
Install the certificate from Let’s Encrypt:
1. Go to Control Panel > System > Security > SSL Certificate & Private Key.
2. Click Replace Certificate.
3. From the dropdown menu, select Get from Let’s Encrypt.
4. Enter the following information:
  1. Domain Name: Your registered custom domain (e.g., yourname.ddns.net)
  2. Email Address: A valid email address to receive renewal notifications
5. Click Apply.
