Your QNAP device can transcode video files to mainstream video formats using the CAYIN MediaSign Player. You must install the CAYIN MediaSign Player and obtain a license before transcoding video on the NAS. You can obtain a Basic or Plus license from the QNAP Software Store. The Plus license is required to decode H.265 and other advanced formats. After obtaining a license, your device can transcode video using hardware acceleration for the following video formats:

CPU architectures

Formats

Intel / AMD

MPEG2, MPEG4, VC1/WMV9, AVC/H.264, VP8, VP9, HEVC/H.265

ARM with NPU

MPEG2, MPEG4, AVC/H.264, VP8, VP9, HEVC/H.265

Hardware acceleration may not operate for high resolution videos, If this happens, the system automatically uses the software decoder instead.

All other video formats will use software decoding to transcode the file. Because software decoding is limited by the available system resources, some video formats may not play smoothly. If this occurs, QNAP recommends enabling offline transcoding for media files.
