Can I rename, disable, or replace the default "admin" account?
Applicable Products
QTS, QuTS hero
Overview
The "admin" account is the default administrator account in QTS and QuTS hero. Using a generic username like "admin" for such an important account may pose a security risk to your system, as this allows malicious hackers to gain unauthorized access to your device more easily once they successfully guess your password. You cannot rename the "admin" account. However, you can disable this default account after creating another administrator account to replace it. We strongly recommend this practice to ensure your device security.
Procedure
To replace the default "admin" account, you need to first create a new user account and grant it administrator privileges. Then you can disable the "admin" account and start managing your system with the new administrator account.
- The "admin" account cannot be disabled if you want to access the NAS via SSH or Telnet.
- Only local NAS users can disable user accounts.
