How do I use a UPS with my QNAP NAS?

Scenario
Power outages or voltage fluctuations can cause data corruption or system failure. By connecting a compatible UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) to your QNAP NAS, you can prevent data loss and perform a safe system shutdown when necessary. If you are unable to set a space alert threshold, your volume is probably a legacy volume created in QTS 4.0 or earlier versions, which do not support creating alert thresholds for an individual volume and other newer storage features.
Solution
Step 1: Choose a compatible UPS
Refer to the QNAP Compatibility List to verify that your UPS is supported by your NAS model.

Step 2: Connect the UPS to your NAS
Via USB:
Plug the UPS USB cable into the NAS USB port. You NAS will detect the UPS automatically.Via SNMP (Network UPS):
Connect the UPS to your network and configure SNMP settings on the NAS.
Step 3: Configure UPS settings in QTS/QuTS hero
Go to Control Panel > System > External Device > UPS.
Enable the UPS support checkbox.
Choose from the following options:
Enable network UPS master (this lets other NAS systems follow shutdown instructions).
Shutdown NAS after X minutes of power loss (recommended duration: 3–5 minutes).
Enable notifications to receive alerts.
For SNMP-based UPS:
Select Network UPS.
Enter the UPS IP address and SNMP community string (usually
public).Test the connection.
Step 4: Test your setup
Unplug your UPS from the power source and verify the following:
The NAS can detect the UPS on battery.
The NAS can initiate a shutdown after the configured delay.
You can receive system logs or notifications about power loss and shutdown
