Which Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) events are handled by a QNAP NAS running on QTS or QuTS hero operating systems?
Applied models:
-
All NAS Series
Applied Firmware:
-
All QTS / QuTS hero Firmware Versions
Answer:
The UPS events handled by a QNAP NAS running on QTS or QuTS hero include OnLine (OL), OnBattery (OB), OnSmartBoost (OSB), Off (OFF), and OnBatteryTest (OBT). For details on how these UPS events are handled by the NAS, see the following table:
UPS event | NAS Status | NAS Action |
OnLine (OL) | Normal | None |
OnBattery (OB) | Abnormal | Auto protection or Shutdown |
OnSmartBoost (OSB) | Normal | None |
Off (OFF) | Abnormal | Shutdown NAS |
OnBatteryTest (OBT) | Normal | None |
UPS status checks procedure:
-
A normal status NAS checks the UPS status every 15 seconds.
-
When the detected UPS status is “OB” and the NAS is not in battery test mode, the NAS will enter either auto-protection or shutdown modes. If the detected UPS status is “OFF” the NAS will shutdown.
-
The NAS performs auto-protection or shutdown based on your configured power failure period settings. Note that if the UPS is in low battery mode, the auto-protection or shutdown countdown period is forcefully set to 30 seconds.
-
In auto-protection or shutdown modes, the NAS will check the UPS status every 5 seconds till power off. The NAS returns to normal status when the UPS status returns to Online (OL). For details, see the flowchart diagram.
