Boot up/restart/shutdown takes a really long time (15-20 minutes). Why is this?

Last modified date: 2020-09-04

First, let us start by saying, a QNAP NAS generally takes around 2-3 minutes to boot up. This number can be further influenced by a few other factors such as the number and capacity of drives currently installed.

In most cases, slowness is caused by some hardware malfunction, such as an unsupported RAM module or faulty HDD. Even though some of our NAS models support RAM extension, we can only guarantee flawless operation if the system is running with QNAP RAM modules. Please also make sure you are using a compatible drive. You may check the list of supported devices on our official website.

Troubleshooting tips

  • Run a check on all the drives (from Control Panel > Storage Manager)
  • Free up some disk space
  • Uninstall apps you no longer use
