After enabling Qtier on a storage pool, why is frequently accessed data still in a lower tier when it should be moved to a higher tier?

  • QTS
  • Storage & Snapshots

To optimize NAS access speeds and system performance, Qtier automatically analyzes usage patterns on the NAS to determine the ideal off-peak hours for moving data. After enabling Qtier, it can therefore take some time before all of your frequently accessed data is moved to a higher tier for better read and write performance, and your infrequently accessed data is moved to a lower tier for more cost-effective data storage.

If you know specific hours when access to the NAS is not needed, you can set a tiering schedule, or manually start tiering data, by following these steps:

  1. Log on to QTS.
  2. Go to Storage & Snapshots > Storage > Storage/Snapshots.
  3. Select a Qtier storage pool.
  4. Click Manage. The Storage Pool Management window opens.
  5. Go to the Qtier Auto Tiering tab.
  6. Click Tiering Schedule. The Qtier Auto Tiering Schedule Settings window opens.
  7. Select Manually set tiering schedule.
  8. Specify the hours on the calendar.
  9. Optional: Specify the number of minutes past the hour to start tiering.
  10. Optional: Select Run now.
  11. Click Apply.

If your NAS model supports Cache Acceleration, you can also increase your data access speed immediately by creating an SSD cache.
