QNAP Releases QTS 5.0.1 Beta, with Reliable RAID Disk Replacement, Windows Search, and Free exFAT Support for ARM-based NAS

Taipei, Taiwan, May 20, 2022 – QNAP® Systems, Inc. (QNAP) today released the QTS 5.0.1 Beta NAS operating system that further enhances security, convenience, and performance – including secure RAID disk replacement for enhanced system reliability, Windows Search Protocol support for NAS shared folders, and enhanced SMB signing and encryption performance. After introducing free support for the exFAT file system to x86-based NAS in an earlier QTS release, QTS 5.0.1 now adds free exFAT support for ARM-based NAS, providing users with faster large file transfer and a smoother media editing experience.
Key new features in QTS 5.0.1:
- RAID disk replacement with spares before potential failure:
If drive errors are indicated through S.M.A.R.T. values, DA Drive Analyzer predictions, or system slow-down, the affected disk in a RAID group can be replaced with a spare disk at any time. This greatly improves system reliability and removes the need for RAID rebuild. - Free exFAT support for ARM-based NAS:
exFAT is a file system that supports files up to 16EB and is optimized for flash storage (such as SD cards and USB devices) - helping accelerate large media file transfer and sharing. - Enhanced transfer speeds for SMB signing and encryption:
QTS 5.0.1 supports AES-NI hardware acceleration to increase data signing and encryption/decryption efficiency over SMB 3.0 (Server Message Block), making the transfer speeds 5x faster than without AES-NI hardware acceleration. It helps boost system performance while securing sensitive business data. - Windows Search Protocol (WSP) support for mounted shared folders:
QTS 5.0.1 now supports Microsoft WSP, which relies on the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol. With WSP, users can search NAS shared folders via Windows when an SMB drive is mounted to the NAS.
