I’m trying to access a service remotely but my browser prompts “This site can’t be reached”.
Certain applications use a special port for accessing your NAS. If these ports are not open on your router you simply won’t be able to access the application since incoming connections are blocked. For example Plex Media Server is using port number 32400 as you can see from the URL bar in your browser after clicking on its icon.
Some error messages you could be seeing are:
Google Chrome: “This site can’t be reached, qnap.myqnapcloud.com refused to connect”
Safari: “Safari Can’t Connect to the Server. Safari can’t open the page because Safari can’t connect to the server”
Mozilla Firefox: “Unable to connect. Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at qnap.myqnapcloud.com”
To open up ports, please do the following:
-
Check which port you need to open. Once you open an app on your NAS you will see the port it is using in the URL field. For example:
-
Go to this website for instructions on how to open up ports on your router.
-
Once the required port has been opened up, you will be able to access all your apps remotely.
