Does the Drive Size and Model need to be the same as the Old Drive when Replacing a Faulty Drive?

Last modified date: 2020-10-08

Applied Models:

  • All models

Applied Firmware:

  • All Firmware versions

The new drive does not need to be the same model, it will need to have at least the same capacity or larger. If a larger capacity drive is used however, the extra capacity of the drive cannot be used, only the original capacity will be utilized, and the extra capacity will be forfeited, thus it is usually recommended to use a same capacity drive.

Larger capacity drives may be suitable for situations where a drive has failed and you have spare drives with larger capacity available. These drives can be used as replacement drives
