Why can't I remotely enable iSCSI & Fibre Channel service when I have a Fibre Channel card installed on my NAS?

Scenario
I have a Fibre Channel card installed on my NAS and iSCSI & Fibre Channel service is disabled. I tried but failed to enable the service remotely using one of these QNAP utilities on another device:
- QNAP vSphere Web Client Plug-in
For example, when using my NAS to create a datastore for the first time in VMware vSphere Web Client. - QNAP Snapshot Agent
For example, when trying to add my NAS on a VMware or Windows server.
Cause
If you have a Fibre Channel (FC) card installed on your NAS, the kernel driver must wait for a response on the FC connection status before iSCSI & Fibre Channel service can be initialized.
The FC connection response may take some time, which can lead to a timeout error resulting in failure to enable the iSCSI & Fibre Channel service.
The long response time could be due to one of these factors:
- You do not have FC cables connected to your NAS.
- The FC cables are not connected to the FC ports on your NAS.
Recommendation
To optimize the speed and efficiency of your FC connection, make sure to connect your FC cables directly to the FC ports on your NAS.
This will reduce the time it takes for the kernel driver to verify the FC connection so that iSCSI & Fibre Channel service can be initialized before timeout.
- To manually enable iSCSI & Fibre Channel service on your QTS or QuTS hero NAS, log in to your NAS as an administrator, open iSCSI & Fibre Channel, and click the Service toggle switch in the upper-left corner.
- To manually enable iSCSI & Fibre Channel service on your QES NAS, log in to your NAS as an administrator, open Storage Manager, and go to Global Settings > Enable iSCSI and Fibre Channel services.
