QNAP Releases QTS 6.1 Beta NAS Operating System: New Interface Design for Intuitive Operation and Secure Data Management

Easier deployment and setup: integrates guided initialization, FIDO2 Passkey passwordless login, and multiple AI applications to provide reliable data management for homes and businesses

QNAP Releases QTS 6.1 Beta NAS Operating System: New Interface Design for Intuitive Operation and Secure Data Management

Taipei, Taiwan, October 16, 2026 – QNAP® Systems, Inc., a leading innovator in storage, networking, and data protection solutions, today released the latest NAS operating system, QTS 6.1 Beta. Designed for individuals, home users, and small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), QTS 6.1 Beta introduces a simpler visual interface, streamlines system configuration, and strengthens login security, making NAS data management and day-to-day maintenance easier for users.

"As digital data continues to grow, user needs for NAS have shifted from an accumulation of features toward a more intuitive and secure everyday experience," said David Hu, Product Manager of QNAP. "QTS 6.1 responds to these needs by lowering the technical barrier to use. With a redesigned, clean interface, simplified setup steps, and enhanced security mechanisms, both family members and business teams can manage and protect their important data with ease and confidence."

Key Features

  • New, clean interface: Menus and icons are simpler, providing an intuitive and comfortable visual experience. System initialization uses step-by-step guided screens, so setup can be completed by following the on-screen prompts. The dashboard brings system health, CPU and memory usage, storage capacity, and temperature together on a single screen. Cards can be freely added or removed, and the layout can be synchronized across devices via a QNAP account.

  • Simplified account management and passwordless login: After linking a NAS account to a QNAP account, users can log in directly without having to remember an additional password. FIDO2 Passkey is supported, allowing users to log in with physical security keys such as YubiKey, or with built-in device authentication methods such as Touch ID and Windows Hello, rather than relying on passwords alone. FIDO2 is a strong, phishing-resistant authentication standard that makes login more secure.

  • No need to restart interrupted backups: Snapshot Replica supports resumable backup transfers. If a backup transfer is interrupted, it resumes from the point of interruption instead of starting over from the beginning, saving transfer time and bandwidth. This is particularly useful for large snapshot backups and environments with less stable network connections, improving the efficiency and resilience of backup operations.

  • Linux Kernel 6.6 foundation upgrade: Upgraded to the Linux Kernel 6.6, providing more stable operation under heavy loads, stronger protection against new security threats, and compatibility with more new-generation hardware, giving the NAS a more solid and reliable operating foundation.

  • Support for multiple AI applications: With the new AI Service Center, users can choose to run AI models locally on the NAS or in the cloud, balancing speed, cost, and privacy. Combined with Qsirch natural language search, users can find files using simple descriptions. QuAgent lets users check system status and handle files through chat, and can also have AI help plan storage space. (For model and hardware support for each AI feature, please refer to the system requirements of each solution.)

  • Support for Intel® Arc™ Pro B70 graphics cards: When an Arc Pro B70 graphics card is installed in the NAS, users can view the graphics card model, temperature, utilization, and memory usage directly in the Control Panel, making it convenient to manage alongside other hardware.

The new QTS 6.1 operating system is available from the Download Center. For more information, please visit: https://www.qnap.com/go/qts/6.1.0

Note: Support for some features varies depending on the NAS model, hardware specifications, and software version. For actual availability, please refer to the official QNAP product pages and documentation.
