Why does changing the RAID configuration of a QNAP external RAID enclosure using the hardware Mode switch causes the status of its external RAID group or disks to change to "Error"?

When an TR-004 external RAID enclosure is connected to the NAS, changing the enclosure's RAID configuration using the hardware Mode switch might cause the status of its external RAID group or disks to change to "Error".

To resolve this issue, set connected external RAID enclosures to Software Control mode and then configure them using Storage & Snapshots only; do not use the Mode switch. Also update the enclosure firmware to the latest version.

If you encounter this issue, restart the enclosure; QTS will detect the correct disk or RAID group status after the enclosure has restarted.
