Important Notes
- QuTS hero does not support downgrading from h5.1.x to h5.0.1 or earlier. Downgrading firmware can be risky. Please make sure you fully understand and accept the risks if you decide to downgrade your firmware.
- To run Virtualization Station on QuTS hero h5.1 series, version 3.6.49 or later is required. If you are using an earlier version of Virtualization Station, please update Virtualization Station before updating QuTS hero to h5.1.
- In QuTS hero h5.0.1 or earlier, users can no longer create new VJBOD disks from a remote NAS if the remote NAS is running QuTS hero h5.1.0 or later. If there are existing VJBOD disks connections to the remote NAS before it is updated to QuTS hero h5.1.0 or later, these VJBOD disks are unaffected and remain operational after the update. In QuTS hero h5.1.0 or later, users can still create VJBOD disks from a remote NAS running QuTS hero h5.0.1 or earlier.
- Added support for the PCIe interface SATA JBOD enclosures TL-R1200PES-RP and TL-R1600PES-RP. To learn about the NAS models that support the JBOD enclosures, see the Compatibility List at https://www.qnap.com/go/compatibility-expansion
- Removed support for Orthanc.
Security Updates
- Applied multiple security updates to further enhance system security.

Enhancements
Storage & Snapshots
- Enhanced the encryption mechanism to improve system performance when SnapSync jobs are running.
Desktop & Login
- The two options provided during the QuTS hero login process, "Keep me logged in" and "Don't verify again on this device" (in 2-step verification), now work independently of each other.
Fixed Issues
- In App Center, users can now select Wireguard VPN as expected when choosing a network connection for Download Center (by clicking the arrow below the app icon and selecting "Connect to").
- Fixed an issue in App Center where monthly automatic updates might be executed on a different day of the month than scheduled.
- Resolved an issue in HBS 3 where under certain circumstances some files would be fully backed up or synced again even though there had been no changes to those files since the last backup or sync.
- Resolved an issue where after updating the firmware, a HybridMount mount connection would became disconnected and could not be reconnected or remounted if the corresponding shared folder on the NAS was full.
- Users can now add a new domain user to a domain group as expected even if the user name is identical to the domain server name.
- Improved the country code display for the mobile phone field when editing a user account profile in Control Panel > Privilege > Users.
- Improved the shared folder permissions mechanism for domain users with delegated roles.
- Domain users accessing the NAS from a Windows computer can now access their user profile as expected.
- Resolved an issue where on a NAS that was configured as a domain controller, Group Policy Object (GPO) configurations would disappear each time the NAS restarted.
- Fixed a rare issue where after adding the NAS to an AD domain, a non-existent domain user account might appear in Control Panel > Privilege > Users > Domain Users.
- The "Shared with me" folder in File Station now properly removes shared links that are no longer shared with the user.
- Resolved a rare issue in iSCSI & Fibre Channel where if the NAS powered off unexpectedly while exporting a LUN, after the NAS restarted the LUN export job would fail and the LUN could not be exported again.
- During QuTS hero login, after your username is confirmed valid, you can now enter your password immediately without needing to click the password field first.
- Resolved an issue where after configuring port trunking, the NAS icon image in Network & Virtual Switch > Overview would not accurately reflect the new port statuses.
- Fixed an issue where some users could not access a NFS mount via a UDP port.
- Addressed an issue in QuLog Center where entering certain special characters in an event log search would unexpectedly trigger a service exception error message.
- Fixed an issue where QuLog Center could not send notifications after users added filter criteria in "Notification Settings" > "Send filtered results to Notification Center" > "Local NAS - Access Log".
- Addressed an issue where users could not access a shared folder through a portal folder from Windows via Samba.
- Fixed an issue where users could not see folders for which they did not have access permission if they accessed the NAS via Samba.
- Resolved an issue where Windows users could not open or copy a previous version of a deleted NAS file through an SMB mount in Windows Explorer (by right-clicking the file and going to Properties > Previous Versions).
- Fixed an issue where some users could not upload a file via SMB.
- Fixed an issue in the "Create a SnapSync Job" wizard in Storage & Snapshots where the wizard would fail to display network adapters on the "Network" page.
- Resolved an issue where real-time SnapSync jobs would sometimes fail to transfer data to the remote NAS for some users.
- Fixed an issue where after changing the snapshot retention policy on the source NAS, running a Snapshot Replica job again would cause the snapshots in the destination snapshot vault to become empty.
- Users can now successfully restore files from a snapshot even if the file names contain certain special characters.
- Fixed an issue on the TS-453A where the NAS would not automatically mount an already connected USB storage device after the NAS woke up from sleep mode.
- Improved the clarity of an event log message for when users fail to securely erase a disk due to the disk belonging to the system volume.
- Fixed an issue where if a firmware update started while the system was scrubbing a storage pool, occasionally the NAS could become unresponsive and the storage pool would enter an error state.
- Resolved an issue in Storage & Snapshots where the Migrate RAID Group function was unexpectedly disabled if the storage pool consisted of an SSD installed via the QDA-U2MP adapter.
- Resolved an issue where after a firmware update, HDDs on the NAS could not go into standby mode for some users.
- Fixed an issue where some users could not access data on a connected TL series JBOD enclosure.
- Fixed a rare issue for some users where the NAS failed to trigger weekly disk performance tests after the users had enabled the weekly tests in Storage & Snapshots.
- Addressed an issue in Storage & Snapshots where under certain conditions users were unexpectedly able to select disks on a JBOD enclosure when expanding a storage pool consisting of local disks on the NAS.
- Resolved an issue where during storage pool expansion the system could sometimes encounter a metadata read error and cause the storage pool to enter an error state.
- Addressed an issue where if a storage pool had previously entered an error state during pool scrubbing, after recovering the storage pool, the system would fail to mount shared folders in the pool.
- Fixed an issue where some users could not install or open Virtualization Station after a firmware update.
Other Change
Network & Virtual Switch
- Due to NIC manufacturer limitations, the "Network Speed" setting is not supported for certain NIC models (such as the Realtek RTL8168).
File Station
- Due to Microsoft user policy changes, the "Edit with Office Online" function is no longer available to users whose region is set to "China".
Control Panel
- Revised event log messages related to checking the existence of default shared folders during system boot.
Known Issues
- After upgrading a Mac computer with an M1 or M2 CPU to macOS 12.6.1, users can no longer connect QNAP NAS devices to the Mac computer via Thunderbolt.
